Nov. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Home Depot Inc., the largest home- improvement retailer, said third-quarter earnings fell after a drop in U.S. home sales slowed demand for cabinets and kitchen renovations. The company reduced its full-year profit forecast.
Net income declined to $1.1 billion, or 60 cents a share, in the quarter through Oct. 28, from $1.5 billion, or 73 cents a year ago, Atlanta-based Home Depot said today in a statement. Sales of $19 billion missed the $19.3 billion average estimate of analysts in a Bloomberg survey.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer, said third-quarter profit rose after it cut holiday prices earlier than last year and discounted more goods to lure customers facing higher gasoline costs and mortgage payments.
Net income increased to $2.86 billion, or 70 cents a share, from $2.65 billion, or 63 cents, a year earlier, the Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer said today in a regulatory filing. Excluding a 1-cent tax benefit, the profit exceeded the 67-cent average estimate of analysts. Sales climbed to $90.9 billion.
