Stock swings normal, steps impractical-China source
BEIJING, Feb 28 (Reuters) - Declines in stock prices are a normal feature of the market, and it is not practical for the authorities to try to arrest them, an official from the securities regulator said on Wednesday. He was speaking a day after the Shanghai Composite Index plunged 8.84 percent, unsettling markets around the world. The index rebounded 3.94 percent on Wednesday. "Ups and downs in stock prices are quite normal. It's not practical (for the regulator) to try to prop up the market when it is dropping," said an official at the China Securities Regulatory Commission. The official, who declined to be named, said he was only voicing his personal opinion. The securities regulator has not issued any official comment.
